Toronto Maple Leafs starting goalie James Reimer has been out since October 22nd, when Brian Gionta collided with Reimer’s head, which resulted in Reimer’s mask flying off and the Maple Leafs star goalie getting whiplash or what has been referred to as, concussion like symptoms.
The good news is that, “The symptoms are getting better or almost gone. I think it’s just a matter now of getting back into shape,” Reimer said. “I’ve felt great the last five days. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Head Coach Ron Wilson said that Reimer is still about 10 days away until his return, as, “This is a process, so let’s not rush it. He’s probably 10 days or so away. This is going to be a slow process. This is the last day I’m going to talk about it until he’s ready to play. When we want him to go in there, we want him to be 100 per cent in terms of stopping the puck.”
So it looks like Reimer will not be returning until early December. This will be a great Christmas gift for all Maple Leafs fans.
Am I worried about this Maple Leaf team because of the loss of Reimer. Its been nice that our team has held things together overall and have be able to be in 5th place in the Eastern Conference right now. As well as being right at the top, competing for the Northeast Division lead. But the spotty play of a pure back goalies in Jonas Gustavsson and a rookie goalie in Ben Scrivens does not give me hope in a potential playoff spot. I want Reimer back as soon as possible.
