The Washington Capitals (13-12-1) will take on the Ottawa Senators (13-11-3) for the second time in less than a week, and the third out of four times this season. So far the Capitals have won both games against the Senators at home, both one-goal wins. The most recent win against the Senators was Dale Hunter’s first as an NHL coach and as the coach of the Washington Capitals. The Capitals will look to improve to 2-3-0 with Hunter at the helm.
I have to expect Tomas Vokoun to get the start tonight after Michal Neuvirth gave up one or two “soft” goals in the Capitals loss against the Florida Panthers on Monday night. Vokoun has yet to get a win during the Hunter Era so far and I think he will play lights out tonight.
Jason Chimera has been the only proficient goal scorer this season, with a team best 11 goals in 26 games. Besides Nicklas Backstrom, who has 27 points in 26 games, Chimera is the only one with more goals. Brooks Laich has also scored a goal in each of the past two games. Alex Ovechkin has not yet scored a goal with Hunter as coach, and I expect him to fall out of this slump soon. He is too good of a player to not get back to putting up big points.
After going 18 of 19 on the penalty kill prior to Monday night’s game, but went 3 of 6 against the Panthers. To be successful they will have to not give up that many chances as well as goals.
Mike Green (groin), Roman Hamrlik (lower-body), Alexander Semin (shoulder), and Matt Hendricks (lower-body) are all scratches for tonight’s game.
The game begins at 7:00 PM and can be viewed on TSN, RDS2, and CSN-MA.
Let’s Go Caps! Rock the Red!
