The Philadelphia Flyers were in the same place they were last Friday down three-goals, and just like Friday they won in overtime. The Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 in overtime.
“That’s the type of team we are, we don’t quit,” said Claude Giroux. “We have a lot of character, and we’re having a lot of fun here. The second period we played our game, and the third period, too.”
After falling down 3-0 the Flyers managed a late first period goal from Max Talbot, who scored with one-second left. After that the Flyers added three more in the second from Matt Read, Scott Hartnell, and Jaromir Jagr respectively.
The Flyers would hold their 4-3 lead until 18:25 into the third when Drew Stafford tied it up.
Just a little over halfway into overtime Giroux intercepted a pass and scored the game winner on a breakaway. ”I was just trying to freeze him and try and find a hole,” said Giroux.
Giroux had a four-point night and now leads the league in points with 36.
The Flyers will be in action next on Thursday when they host their in-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins in a Keystone Showdown for first place in the Atlantic.
