Nazem Kadri Scores the Game Winner Over the Buffalo Sabres
Coming into a game against division rivals the Buffalo Sabres. The Toronto Maple Leafs only have won two games in the month of December. A couple games age the leafs were coming off a close 5-4 lost against these same Sabres on December 16th.
To make matter worst, the Maple Leafs came into this game shorthanded because they lost forwards Colby Armstrong to a concussion and Philippe Dupis to an upper body injury over the last two days. So it is going to be tough to get two points from the get go and beat the division leading Sabres.
Maple Leafs 3
Toronto – David Steckel – Phil Kessel – Nazem Kadri
The two players who were key in Toronto victory tonight were Nazem Kadri and James Reimer. This was Kadri’s first game after being called up from the Marlies yesterday. Kadri’s goal at 5:52 into the 3rd period was the clincher in the 3-2 win. As for Reimer, he stopped 40 of 42 shots and helped the penalty kill to only 1 goal in six opportunities. His performance earned him his six win of the season.
Looking ahead the Maple Leafs head into a four game home stretch, where they will play the New York Islanders, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Winnipeg Jets.
