Washington Capitals fourth-line center Mathieu Perrault was hospitalized last night after the Capitals 4-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo, New York. He was kept overnight for precautionary reasons and did not return to the Nation’s Capital with the team after the game.
Perrault was speared by his own stick in the third as he went into the boards and fell to a heap on the ice where he was attended to by a team trainer. He ultimately skated off of the ice under his own will and continued in the game with three more shifts, including one where he was called for a charging penalty. Perrault is expected to rejoin the team today and take part in practice with them according to a team spokesman.
After the game the team said that Perrault had suffered an upper-body injury and was hospitalized for precautionary reasons. In 23 games this season, Perrault has three goals and seven points with a plus-1 rating and 12 penalty minutes.
I will continue to update with information as this progresses, stay tuned.
