The Philadelphia Flyers are Trounced by the Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-1

By Johnny Machurek

December had started as a great month for the Philadelphia Flyers but has quickly turned into a nightmare over the last four games.  In that span the Flyers are 1-2-1 and have been outscored in the three losses 12-5, including a 5-1 loss last night to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa took a 1-0 lead just a little under ten minutes into the game when Bruno Gervais scored his third goal of the season. The Flyers managed to tied it up at 18:14 off of a Scott Hartnell wrist shot.

After Steven Stamkos got a backhanded goal at 7:25 in the second period, the Lightning would not look back.  Steve Downie, Stamkos, and Vincent Lecavalier, would score the next three en route to a trouncing of the Flyers.

The Flyers are now tied with in-state rival the Pittsburgh Penguins for second, and the two will faceoff on Thursday.  The game in Pittsburgh will be the Flyers last game before the Winter Classic on January 2.
