The NHL announced rosters for the annual All-Star Game on January 12, 2012, and the Colorado Avalanche will only have one representative in Ottawa. Gabriel Landeskog was one of 12 rookies named to the 2012 All-Star festivities.
Landeskog has played in all 44 of Colorado’s games this season and has made his presence known in all of them. Landeskog seems to have an uncanny sense to find the open man on the ice. His 13 assists this season and 8 goals puts him 5th in scoring for the Avalanche.
Landeskog is the highest draft pick that Colorado has had in club history and is living up to his status. He leads the Avs in plus/minus with a +9, leads the teams in shots with 132, leads the Avs in hits with 112 and is tied with the most game-winning goals for the club with 2. As for matching up with rookies around the league, Landeskog leads the league in shots and takeaways for rookies.
Gabriel Landeskog will need to keep his All-Star prowess in full form after competing in Ottawa if Colorado expects to make any noise in the Western Conference. He is already doing a stellar job of producing points for the Avalanche, but in order to compete with the front-runners Landeskog will need to exceed his All-Star expectations after the Break.
