Jake Gardiner Demoted to Toronto Marlies

The Toronto Maple Leafs demoted rookie defenceman Jake Gardiner to the Toronto Marlies on Sunday.

Gardiner has not dressed in Toronto’s last four games, including the 3-0 shutout against the New York Rangers on January 14th.

I like that Gardiner was sent down to the Marlies. There are no positives to have a young, rookie defenseman sit and watch the rest of his team play from the press box. Let the 21 year old take the responsibility as a top defenseman for the Marlies, so that he can gain valuable experience and play big minutes. Though I am sure Gardiner will be called up again to the Maple Leafs in good time.

Through 37 games played, Gardiner has failed to register his first NHL goal, but has 10 assist and 34 shots on goal in his rookie season.
