Jonas Gustavsson With Another Dominating Performance

By Jeff Zeffer

After four straight win to start off 2012 for Jonas Gustavsson, he lost the next two games against the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers.

Tonight Gustavsson got the call again this month to face the Minnesota Wild at the Air Canada Center and had another dominating performance in a 4-1 win. Gustavsson almost got the shutout in tonight’s game before Minnesota’s Nick Johnson scored at the side of the net with 2:27 left in the 3rd period. This would have been Gustavsson’s third shutout of the month. Gustavsson finished the game with 19 saves on 20 shots.

Now we do need to give credit to the Maple Leafs defense for this win. 13 of the team’s 19 block shots came from their defense. Overall the defense core played a solid game, with no hiccups.

From the offensive side of the game, Lupul lead all scorers with 3 assist. Lupul is two points away from tying his 53 point career regular season high, set in his sophomore season in 2005/06. Nazem Kadri, Joey Crabb, Phil Kessel and Mikhail Grabovski round out the score sheet for the Maple Leafs.

3 Stars of the Game
1 – Joffrey Lupul
2 – Jonas Gustavsson
3 – Nazem Kadri
