- Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate, Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (the Baby Pens), played a tribute game at the Mellon Arena against the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (they wore Hornets jerseys and a banner was raised at the arena that celebrated the three Hornets’ Calder Cup Championships)

- Dunc Wilson stopped 22 shots from the Cleveland Barons and earned his fifth shutout with the Penguins

- the first sellout crowd at the Civic Arena (12,563) watched the Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs play to a 3-3 tie

- the Pittsburgh Hornets lost to the Springfield Indians, 4-2, in what would begin the AHL’s record for the longest winless streak (they went 0-22-1 before beating the Hershey Bears on March 26th)
