Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Situation Is A Huge Problem

The Philadelphia Flyers have 71 points and right now are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference. They certainly are not there because of their goaltending. Head coach Peter Laviolette has had this problem all season long. The off season acquisition of Ilya Bryzgazov was suppose to answer this problem. Bryzgazov signed a huge contract and he has not answered the problem.

The Philadelphia Flyers have been rotating Bryzgalov and Sergei Bobrovsky. Laviolette has been trying to find the hot hand. The NHL regular season is almost coming to an end. The team still needs to answer this problem. It is certainly not a good problem to have as your team is approaching the playoffs.

The Flyers have had a very tough season with injuries and losing their main horse and captain.defenseman Chris Pronger who is gone for the entire season due to a concussion. The Flyers to be where they are with the injuries and the goaltending problem is something in itself.

The Philadelphia Flyers have a very talented team but the key to success in the playoffs is have good goaltender. A team can win a series or two if their goalie gets hot. The two goalies the Flyers have, have two good games and than two bad games. The consistency is not there. As the trading deadline is getting close don’t look for the Philadelphia Flyers to do anything about the goalie situation. Look for them to get defensemen around their goalie to help with clearing out the area around their goaltender and giving him a better opportunity to see the puck.

Peter Laviolette right now has got to hope that Bryzgalov can snap out of his funk. The Flyers certainly did not sign him to a big contract to play like he has thus far this season. To win in the playoffs your team needs to have solid goaltending. The Flyers right now don’t have that and it certainly is a huge problem for the team.

The Flyers certainly can make a run in the playoffs but they also could be knocked out in the first round. The goalie situation will be the major key to that success. The Flyers certainly can score goals but when it is playoff time that is when good defense and the last line of defense, you goalie is the key to playoff success. The teams that win in the playoffs get the good goaltending. It does look like the Philadelphia Flyers will again not win the Stanley Cup. It could be year 37 without the Stanley Cup parading down Broad Street in South Philadelphia. When all is said and done they will be able to point right at their goalie situation
