Fans Chant for a Ron Wilson Firing

By Jeff Zeffer

When the Toronto Maple Leafs played the Florida Panthers Tuesday, February 28th to finish off their four game home stand at the Air Canada Center. The Maple Leafs fans gave Ron Wilson a piece of their minds when chants of ‘fire Wilson’ started to fuel up when Panthers defensman Jason Garrison scored the fourth Florida goal in the game, early in the third period.

Between the fans being vocal during game and the fact that Toronto has recorded one win in the teams last ten games, could this be the cause for someone getting the boot?

Who would be the one that is going to take the fall? General Manager? Head Coach?

Well it is not going to be the General Manager Brian Burke, he’s way more valuable there Ron Wilson. But Burke is not the person Leafs fans are after. This leaves use with Ron Wilson, who is one the better coaches in the NHL with a fantastic regular season track record. Though with Wilson’s sarcastic and caustic personality and the fact that he has not helped the Maple Leafs into the playoffs since his arrival in 2008, Wilson is an easier target.

I personally do not believe the blame should mainly be place on Wilson’s shoulders for the results of the 2011/12. But if the landslide of losses continues, some action must be taken.

With all of this being said, I think it is unlikely Burke will fire Wilson this season. Since there was minimal action for the Maple Leafs on trade deadline day it is clear that not making the playoffs this season is acceptable and the focus is on the future.

What Jeff Zeffer and Rant Sports wants to know is do you think there is any benefit to keep Ron Wilson behind the bench for the remainder of the season or should he be fired now?
