The Hockey News is doing a special feature for their March 19 issue that, like the Players Poll reported on recently, polls anonymous players to find out more about the insiders’ view of the game. THN is looking for the top 50 players in the entire NHL currently.
Unlike the Player’s Poll, THN polled five players from each team for a total of 150 sources (the Player’s Poll had a bigger sample). Players were not allowed to vote for their teammates. THN is also rolling out their results online in groups of five each day instead of releasing it all at once, so more Bruins can potentially be named to the list in the coming days.
For now, Milan Lucic is the first Bruin to make the list, coming in at number 43. THN doesn’t say any particular reasons why he was selected–it just offers a short biography–but I imagine the fact that he can both score and provide a big physical presence might be among his selling points. Consider that so far this season, he’s put up 21 goals, 23 assists, 142 hits and 113 penalty minutes in 60 games. He’s the total package and a nice guy who just really loves his family and his hometown (even if sometimes his hometown doesn’t love him back).
