  • Pittsburgh traded a conditional draft pick to the New York Islanders for Bill Guerin
  • claimed forward Craig Adams off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks
  • acquired defenseman Andy Wozniewski from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Danny Richmond

2008

  • Pittsburgh’s Petr Sykora was stopped on a penalty shot by Tampa Bay’s Mike Smith and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 35 shots from the Lighntning to earn his tenth career shutout with the Pens

2007

  • the Penguins completed a season sweep of the Flyers with a 4-3 overtime shootout victory at Mellon Arena; it gave the Penguins wins in all eight of their games with Philadelphia (it is first time Pittsburgh had beaten an opponent eight times in one season)

2006

  • Mark Recchi earned his second hat trick with the Penguins after beating Carolina Hurricane’s Cam Ward for three goals

2004

  • the Pens established the longest home winless streak at 16 games (12/31/03 – 3/4/04)

1995

  • Pens defenseman Larry Murphy recorded his 700th career assist against the Boston Bruins

1991

  • the Penguins got Ron Francis, Ulf Samuelsson and Grant Jennings from the Hartford Whalers in exchange for John Cullen, Zarley Zalapski and Jeff Parker

1990

  • Rob Brown recorded his seventh hat trick with Pittsburgh against the Minnesota North Stars

1983

  • the Penguins lost to the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 10-2 for the last of 18 losses on the road – the team’s longest road losing streak (12/23/82 – 3/4/83)

1981

  • the Penguins set a franchise record with six consecutive victories from February 22nd to March 4th

  • Orest Kindrachuk recorded his first hat trick with the Penguins after scoring thee goals against Colorado Rockies’ Michel Plasse
