Pittsburgh Penguins Re-Assign Two Defensemen

By Stephanie Lewark

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced earlier this morning that they’ve reassigned defensemen Simon Despres and Brian Strait to the team’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre / Scranton.

Both Kris Letang (six games) and Paul Martin (two games) have been out of the lineup for Pittsburgh for a few games, so if this reassignment means that they’ll both be returning to the ice on Thursday against the New York Rangers, they will definitely be welcomed by the team.  And even though the Penguins have successfully played without these key components, having Letang back will just bring more grit and offensive-defense on the ice for the Penguins which can never hurt.

No word yet on when Sidney Crosby will return, but my guess would be that it’s not going to be Thursday unless Eric Tangradi is reassigned to WBS (that will be a pretty good indication that Crosby will return to the lineup).
