Video: KHL Fans Want Alexander Radulov to Remain in Russia

By Steve Palumbo

Alexander Radulov has not played an NHL since 2008 but he is already considered the final piece of the Nashville Predators Stanley Cup puzzle. When Radulov’s Russian team was eliminated from the KHL playoffs it opened up the door for his return to the NHL.

Nashville drafted Radulov 15th overall in 2004. He played just 145 games for them over two seasons  collecting 44 goals and 95 points before taking his talents to Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League in 2008. Before bolting for Mother Russian it looked as though Radulov was on the verge of becoming a bonafide NHL star.

“He’s a dynamic player,” Preds GM David Poile said. “He’s an offensive player. He’s a two-time MVP of the KHL. He’s won a championship, played in the Olympics, won a world championship. I mean, he’s a top player. How can that not help us?”

Obviously the addition of Radulov would give the Predators another offensive weapon to go along with their already talented roster. Plus Nashville fans would absolutely welcome him back with open arms – But it looks like the Radulov fans back in Russian may not let him go so easily.

I came across a video called “Stay, Radu, with us – you will be our king,” on Youtube. It’s basically a video put together by Salavat Yulaev Ufa fans reminding the Russian star of the good times he had while a member of the KHL franchise.

Since I don’t understand or read a lick of Russian I have no clue what any of the signs say – however I was very impressed with Radulov’s unique stick twirl celebration. I wonder how long before we see that twirl in a Preds uniform?
