(Video) Scott Hartnell Scores with .9 Left in Overtime as the Flyers End the Penguins 11-Game Win Streak

By Johnny Machurek

This was the first time the Philadelphia Flyers faced Sidney Crosby since December 14, 2010.  When the Flyers faced him and the Pittsburgh Penguins they were riding a 11-game win streak, today felt like a case of déjà vu.

Philadelphia went two-periods without finding the back of the net and were only kept in the game by the wonderful play of netminder Ilya Bryzgalov.  Bryz turned away 25 of the Pens 27 shots through the first two period, 38 of 40 for the entire game.  The Penguins got goals from Craig Adams in the first and Evgeni Malkin in the second.

The Flyers finally broke through on Marc-Andre Fleury in the third on a powerplay goal from Kimmo Timonen :31 in. Philly would tie it  just over four-minutes later when Scott Hartnell put a wrist shot past Fleury for his 34th goal on the year.

The game had a playoff atmosphere to it and it all culminated in the third when Hartnell and Chris Kunitz came to blows in third, which was part of a big scrum in the third.

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia were headed to a shootout, but Danny Briere and Hartnell had something to say about that.  Jaromir Jagr end his shift and Hartnell hopped of the board, where he was fed a great pass from Briere, that he put over Fleury’s shoulder.

Here is the game-winning goal:

“It was a playoff game,” Hartnell said. “Odds are that we are going to end up with these guys in the first round. We got a point on them tonight. One step closer to getting home ice.”

The win moves the Flyers to within two-points of the Pens, the two meet twice in Pittsburgh in April.  Philadelphia will be action again on Tuesday when they host Southeast Division leader the Florida Panthers.
