Zach Bogosian got some serious air when he leveled Carolina’s Andreas Nodl in the Jets’ 4-3 loss to the Hurricanes last night.
Bogosian made contact with Nodl’s chest and kept his arms in while delivering the blow, but he clearly left his feet. It wasn’t a clean hit, but not the dirtiest or most dangerous either. Nodl was not injured on the play. That would have been a monster clean hit had Bogosian stayed on his skates. However, Bogo had no reason to leap into the hit and it was a stupid decision on his part. He’s lucky Brendan Shanahan did not lay the law down on him, because one could argue Bogosian’s intent when you look at how high off the ice the defenseman jumped.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports that Bogosian, who served a five-minute major and a game misconduct, will not be suspended. Even though Jet’s mans chanted “Ref, you suck” during the entire five minutes of Bogosian’s penalty, the officials made the correct call.
With Nik Antropov’s health status unknown, not losing another key component to the roster as the Jets embark on a difficult three-game road trip provides some relief. Bogosian has already missed 17 games due to injury this season. Winnipeg will surely be happy to have Bogosian in the lineup when they take on the Penguins on Tuesday.
