Helm Could Miss Rest Of Regular Season

By Daniel Gustkey

When the ball gets rolling, sometimes it is impossible to stop.  This is one of those times for the Detroit Red Wings.

You can officially add Darren Helm to the list of Red Wing injuries.  The Detroit center came up with a lower body injury while laying the wood to San Jose forward Dominic Moore on Sunday evening.

Helm, the initiator of the collision, walked away with the injury that could sideline him for the rest of the regular season, if not longer.  Helm said it was a funky collision as he approached Moore for the hit from an awkward angle.  Helm also said he has no idea as to his return timetable, but he hopes to be ready for the playoffs, if not sooner.

Helm joins Lidstrom, Franzen, Ericsson, Kindle, MacDonald, and Eaves as Wings’ current Wings’ regulars who find themselves unable to play.  The Red Wings’ play of late has certainly reflected the names and the talent currently unavailable to them.  Detroit has gained only 1 point from their last three games, all against Western Conference foes.  Helm will most certainly be missed on the penalty kill, as his speed makes him one of the most effective penalty killers in the NHL.
