In the five meetings between the New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers this season there has been at least one fight within the first two second of the first period. In their last meeting there were two fights after the opening face off. So how could the bitter rivals possibly top that off?
How about THREE fights at the onset of the game.
It what can only be described as good natured gamesmanship, Devils head coach Pete Deboer and Rangers head coach John Tortorella put all their tough guys on to start a very important game for both clubs. And of course without hesitation Stu Bickel fought Ryan Carter, Brandon Prust fought Cam Janssen and Mike Rupp Fought Eric Boulton.
After all the dust settled the ice was littered with equipment and blood splatter. There were a total of 40 penalty minutes handed out at the conclusion of the fray. Bickel drew five for fighting and an additionial 10 minute misconduct penalty.
The best part was towards the end of the scrap when Tortorella and Deboer starting jawing at eachother across the benches. Weren’t they they the ones who put those guys on the ice? It’s obvious these clubs and coaches hate eachother with a passion. This should make for a great finish.
Who said fighting was bad TV?
