Antropov out vs. Pittsburgh, Maxwell recalled
According to multiple reports from the Jets beat, Nik Antropov did not travel with the team to Pittsburgh for their game against the Penguins on Tuesday night. Antropov left Sunday’s game with a lower-body injury and it’s unclear what exactly was bothering him because he left the game suddenly in the second period. There wasn’t a specific replay showing what could have caused the injury. We can only hope that he didn’t pull his groin or strain a knee ligament.
Nonetheless, Antropov, who had goals in his last three games, will be missed, but the Jets have to press on and get goals however they can against a very strong Pens team. Blake Wheeler and Evander Kane have been playing well, and Antti Miettinen came to life versus the Hurricanes so hopefully a team that was already scoring by committee can absorb the loss of Antropov. If this team wishes to be in the playoffs next month, they can’t use injuries as an excuse.
Taking Nik’s spot on the roster will be center Ben Maxwell, who played four games with Winnipeg early on and had one point in six games for the Ducks in a November stint. He has 8 goals and 14 assists in 36 games with the St. John’s IceCaps in 2011-12.
With Maxwell’s recall, it appears Eric Fehr will also be out of the lineup tonight, even though he did travel with the team. Fehr is listed with an upper-body injury which is believed to be his shoulder. My guess is that Maxwell will slot in as the 4th line center.
