On March 6th Toronto Maple Leafs’ forward Joffrey Lupul separated his shoulder during a game against arch rivals, the Boston Bruins. Lupul was hit from behind into the boards by David Krejci during the second period. It was estimated that Lupul was going to be out of the line-up 3-4 weeks, which would make his return right at the end of the season, but still with a chance of not returning at all this season.
Now on March 25th, it looks like Lupul won’t be wearing the blue and white until the 2012/13 season.
Lupul says it would be “a bit of a stretch” for him to return this season.
Lupul will finish the season with 67 points in 66 games; by far the best season of his career.
Lupul has recently been in the news but more in an uplifting way, as he has been named as a nominee for the Masterton Trophy. This trophy is given out annually to the player who demonstrates perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to the game of hockey on and off the ice.
The other nominees include Corey Potter from the Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson and Montreal Canadiens’ Max Pacioretty.
The award winner will be announced in Las Vegas on June 20th.
