The Toronto Maple Leafs have sent down Nazem Kadri and Ryan Hamilton to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. As their emergency recall feels like it is over before it really got started. Both Kadri and Hamilton played two games and during this time, this was Hamilton’s first two NHL games of his career; he recorded one assist. While Kadri did in fact score one goal on three shots over the two game span.
The benefits to keeping Kadri in the AHL from here on out is the great possibility of the Toronto Marlies going deep in the playoffs. The experience that Kadri will get as a key component on a professional team will be so valuable. With hope that he can become a better player for the Maple Leafs next season.
The Maple Leafs’ have picked up points in four of their last six games, in desperation to make something out of the rest of the season. But as the regular season is almost complete, the Leafs’ inexperience, along with a mid-season Head Coach change, did not stop the bleeding as the Maple Leafs head towards a potential top five draft pick. My hope is that Toronto will get at least a top six pick in the end. By looking at mock drafts and scouting reports, I believe that there is a top six tier of players who will likely be the first six picks in their year’s NHL draft. All quality players, who could have a shot of starting in the NHL next season. But that it is whole another topic to write about another day.
