Adventure Aquarium Goes From Being Penguin Island to Flyers Island; Let's Name Them

By Johnny Machurek

Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey has changed the name of their Penguin Island exhibit to Flyers Island.  The aquarium is located just 10 minutes from Philadelphia and by the looks of it they want to show their support for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Also, just in case you are wondering this is nothing like the Dry Island Peter Laviolette supposedly had.

From Puck Daddy the penguins will get renamed:

Beginning Thursday, the names of their penguins at the aquariumwill be re-named through the end of the series. Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, Ilya Bryzgalov, Max Talbot, Sean Couturier, Danny Briere, Kimmo Timonen, Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds and Jaromir Jagr will all have penguins named after them.

According to Kim Walker, Public Relations Manager for Adventure Aquarium, the personalities of the African penguins will be matched with that of a Flyer. The penguin showing the most leadership skills will become “Giroux”, said Walker. That must make the oldest one “Jagr”.

I think maybe they should stop referring to them as penguins, maybe come up with something clever.  Something along the lines of Philadelphia Flightless Birds.

Since Giroux and Jagr have been figured out let’s name the others.

Hartnell: This has to go to the penguin that falls down a lot.

Bryzgalov: This has to go to the penguin that looks up at the stars and out into the universe.

Talbot: This has to go to the penguin that changed over from a rival penguin colony.

Couturier and Schenn: This has to go to the penguins that are the youngest.

Briere: This has to go to the penguin that is the smallest of the bunch.

Timonen: This has to go to the penguin that is the quietest but is a strong leader.

Simmonds: This has to go to the penguin that is known as one of the toughest in the bunch.

I’ve been to the adventure aquarium and the penguins exhibit is quite popular, but I think this is something that will attract even more visitors.

Also, following the win last night the penguins got painted in Flyers orange and black.
