Mike Richard’s 3 point night helps Los Angeles Kings stun Vancouver Canucks
The Los Angeles Kings pulled an upset in Game 1 as they defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2. Jeff Carter had 2 assists, Mike Richards had a goal and 2 assist and Willie Mitchell, Dustin Brown and Dustin Penner scored for the Kings. The Penner goal was a lucky bounce that went the Kings way. Carter, who missed the final 5 regular season game, returned to the lineup for the Kings. For the Canucks, Ryan Kesler got 2 assists and Alex Burrows and Alex Edler scored for the Canucks. Roberto Luongo stopped 35 out of 38 shots while Jonathan Quick stopped 24 out of 26 shots. Byron Bitz got ejected from the game at the 12:12 mark of the 2nd period because he went into the corner and nailed Kyle Clifford into the boards. Bitz will likely be suspended for that hit. The Canucks played without their top goal scorer Daniel Sedin and when he’ll be back is a mystery. Sedin is still hurting after the elbow Duncan Keith gave to him. Let’s hope that he’s healthy because the Canucks really do miss him when he’s not in the lineup. The Canucks were heavily favored in the series but if the Kings continue to play like this, they have a good chance of pulling an upset. The Canucks offense is struggling right now and they need to get their offensive game going. If the Kings defeat the Canucks in the playoffs, I can promise you things won’t go well in Vancouver. Game 2 will be on Friday and the Kings have a 1-0 lead over the Vancouver Canucks.
