Mr. Playoffs Danny Briere Helps Lead the Philadelphia Flyers in an Improbable Comeback
The Flyers fell behind quickly to Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 after the first period. After those three first period goals the Pens would not score again and at the time it looked it like that would be all Pittsburgh needed.
Enter Briere who has been Mr. Playoffs for the Flyers in his time in Philadelphia. “We had two choices – either we start playing or pack it in and try to get ready for Game 2,” Briere said. “It was an easy choice.”
Briere decided to play and notched his first of two goals in the second. 11-minutes were left to play and the Flyers were down 3-1 and it looked like game one was going to go to the Pens. Briere then added his second goal of the game and cut the lead to 3-2 with 10:43 to play.
Brayden Schenn scored with 7:37 to tie the game at three in his first ever playoff game. The game would then head to overtime.
Philadelphia struck quickly and left with the 4-3 win when Jakub Voracek banged home a rebound. He owned Jordan Staal in the whole sequence. Here is the video (bonus feature is Pierre McGuire butcher Ilya Bryzgalov’s name at 1:53):
This is something Flyers fans have grown accustom to over the last month or so, falling behind and then coming back. “Sitting here after the first period we were saying we’ve done it all year, let’s start with a goal,” Briere said.
Game two will be in Pittburgh on Friday at 7:30 PM EST.
