Finally we get a hockey suspension that makes sense. Phoenix Coyotes thug Raffi Torres has been suspended for his brutal hit on Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa. Torres will have a face to face meeting about his suspension on Friday.
For those of you who thought the hit was clean, I am sorry. You might be dumb. You would fit in perfectly with the Phoenix announcers who thought nothing was wrong. It was a perfectly clean hit if you were blind. It was a blatant cheap shot and I am glad the league is finally moving in the right direction. Not getting the call right on the ice is one thing, but at least they have moved quickly after the fact.
If Hossa is out for an extended period of time, the Blackhawks are in trouble. He is one of their best players and they will need him if they want to chase another title. Torres is not that big of a piece for Phoenix, so this might actually help them. Torres eliminates a key member of the opponent. It is dirty and unethical, but it may just be working to their advantage.
The two teams meet again on Thursday in a game that should be explosive. Look for more big hits and a fired up crowd. The Blackhawks need the game or their playoff lives are put in extreme danger. Expect the team to come out firing. If they do not, they will be watching the rest of the series from home.
