Earlier this week Dmitry Chesnolov tweeted a quote from an interview Toronto Maple Leafs’ center Mikhail Grabovski had, that read;
Were there any doubts when you extended your contract?
“There were doubts, and there was an offer from another club. If I wasn’t needed in Toronto, I wouldn’t have signed the contract. It turned out I was needed. I love Toronto. I want to play in that city.”
First of all, by all means, this is nothing but a rumour, there not much to back this up, making this situation all speculation.
Please do not forget that when Grabovski says, “there was an offer from another club,” that, that club could come from the KHL. Since anything from the NHL would be consider tampering, so I will assume with confidence that KHL was offering Grabovski a contract.
But I would like to hear your thoughts, did you like the Grabovski signing at the $5.5 million per year amount?
I also want to add that I believe Burke got several trade offers from various NHL teams during the month of February. As I agree with the statement that Grabovski had doubts of signing a new contract with the Maple Leafs earlier this year.
In the end, it is quite possible (more-so likely) that the mystery team Grabovski mentioned was indeed a team from the KHL. More importantly Grabovski will be a Toronto Maple Leafs until through the 2016/17 season. Though I still personally do not like the amount Grabovski will earn each year, that would be another story down the road
