The Anaheim Ducks top minor league affiliate the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL have 2 must win games against the St. John’s IceCaps today and tomorrow at 3pm. So far Syracuse trail the series 2-1 in a best of 5. This means that if the Crunch lose either today, or tomorrows game then they will be eliminated from the playoffs.
After losing a close game last Friday 3-2, the Crunch came back to win game 2 by a score of 4-3. The game was highlighted with goals by Mark Bell, Mat Clark, John Mitchell, and a game winning goal by Brandon McMillan. Unfortunately for the Crunch they dropped game 3 by a score of 5-1.
The playoff scoring leader for The Crunch is a name that Ducks fans are familiar with as Dan Sexton leads the team with 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists). The Ducks are going to need Sexton, along with top Anaheim Ducks prospects Kyle Palmieri, and Emerson Etem to play key roles in todays and tomorrows games in order for the Crunch to advance in the next round of the playoffs. It is important to note that Peter Holland has yet to play in a playoff game due to injury. There is no timetable for his return, but if he could somehow recover in time for one of the 2 games he would be a great help to the team.
The goalie of the Crunch Iiro Tarkki who was great in the regular season, played well in the first 2 games, but had a pretty bad game 3 letting in all 5 goals. his stats so far in the series are a goals against average of 3.70 and a save percentage of .875. He is going to need to be at his best in the last 2 games in order for the Crunch to advance.
