The New York Rangers are one win away from the Conference Finals
The New York Rangers won a thrilling Game Five on Monday night in Madison Square Garden. They won 3-2 in overtime. The Rangers were trailing 2-1 for a majority of the third period and scored the tying goal with 6.6 seconds left. The Rangers were on the power play and had a pulled goalie so had two extra men and found a way. They then scored the winning goal on the power play less then two minutes into the overtime. The Rangers now have a three games to two lead in the best of seven series. They will head to Washington D.C. for Game Six on Wednesday night and try to win the series.
The Rangers have now won two thrilling overtime games in this series and are on the verge of advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals. They played great all season long and had one of the best seasons ever for any Rangers team. They were the number one seed and have home ice advantage throughout since the Vancouver Canucks lost in the first round. The Rangers won a hard fought first round series with the Ottawa Senators in seven games and now have a chance to win this series in six. The Rangers could face their division rivals the New Jersey Devils in the finals as they are on the verge of ending their series as well.
The Rangers probably played their best game of the series in this game but yet had to rally late to tie the game and then win it in overtime. The Rangers don’t get down on themselves though and should play with the same injury and have the same gameplan, they just need to score more on the power play. The Rangers still in my mind have a great chance of winning the whole thing but they don’t make it easy at all.
I love how the Rangers play the game, you have to love their passion and how they never give up. They have also all bought into the team concept and do whatever they have to do to win the games. They dive all over to block shots and they really come at you physically and when they need to tie or win the game offensively. The Rangers would like to get a couple of goal lead in game six and then hold onto it and not make it so tough.
The Rangers will have their chance on Wednesday night to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in a long time. The Rangers can get a lot of momentum from this series. The Rangers also as the youngest team are built to win for a long time. All the experience and tough games they are playing now is going to be good for them in the long run. They can always go back to these games and draw from them and that is an important thing. We will see if the Rangers can advance or will they make it tough again and have to play another game seven winner take all at home.
