- Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 21 shots for his third career playoff shutout
Pittsburgh was the #2 seed going into the playoffs and Philadelphia was the #6 seed. The Penguins went on to the next round to play the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Final. They would ultimately lose in six games.
- the Penguins dropped Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Florida Panthers, 5-1, and eventually lost the series in seven games
- Pittsburgh goalie Ken Wregget stopped 33 shots to shut out the Washington Capitals, 3-0, to win Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals
