Jordan Staal has been in trade rumours for years, a lot of these rumours include the Toronto Maple Leafs. Well, with one year left on Staal’s contract, this superb center may very well have interest in finding a new home where Staal can take his career to the next level. A situation in Pittsburgh which could never happened with Sidney Crsoby and Evgeni Malkin at the helm.
So that’s the main reason why Staal should find a new home and or General Manager Ray Shero should trade Staal. As I firmly believe that in order for Staal to advance his career he need to be removed for under the stardom of Crosby and Malkin.
As for the Maple Leafs, their long awaited search for a #1 center needs to end sooner rather than later, if they want any chance at a playoff spot next season; making the 6’4″ Staal ever so appealing to the Maple Leafs. Along with Staal’s skills set of offensive and defensive consistency fits the Maple Leafs great.
So if Staal is even remotely available, General Manager Brian Burke should go after him, right? But at what price? Would you exchange a 5th overall selection straight up for a 23 year-old Staal. Staal certainly would look great between Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul. But the Maple Leaf will not be the only team after Jordan Staal, I have to image at least a dozen teams will be after Staal.
