On This Date in Pittsburgh Penguins History (July 8) / Penguins Trivia
- Pittsburgh Penguins Jaromir Jagr was named to the NHL First All-Star Team at right wing and Larry Murphy was named to the Second Team on defense
- Wren Blair takes over as Penguins general manager
Blair served at Pittsburgh general manager from July 1975 through December 1976 replacing Jack Button. He was ultimately replaced by Baz Bastien. Prior to that, Blair was the head coach (1967-1970) as well as the GM (1967-1974) of the Minnesota North Stars. Also coached the Whitby Dunlops (of Major League Hockey) to two Allan Cups in 1957 and 1959 as well as Team Canada to a gold medal in the 1958 Ice Hockey World Championships.
