- the Pittsburgh Penguins traded Kevin Stevens and Shawn McEachern to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Bryan Smolinski, Glen Murray and third round draft pick in the 1996 NHL Amateur Draft
Smolinski played hockey in college for the Michigan State University Spartans and was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft (21st overall). After his playing career came to an end, he had a short stint coaching a high school hockey team as well as played in both the IHL and AHL.
Murray played junior hockey for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and was also drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round (18th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He played 16 seasons in the NHL (also played for the Los Angeles Kings).
