The Penguins traded Straka to the Ottawa Senators in April 1995. He returned to Pittsburgh during the 1997-98 season with his best season with the club being in 2000-01. The next season, he suffered a season-ending broken leg taking him years to recover from. The Penguins would once again trade him once again in November 2003 to the Los Angeles Kings.

Straka returned to the Czech Republic in July 2008 and currently plays hockey for HC Plzeň 1929 of the Czech Extraliga. In 2009, he purchased 70% of the team making him a co-owner of the team (he also their general manager as well).
