FORMER PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Baz Bastien was first associated with the Pittsburgh Hornets as the goaltender and later became the Hornets head coach and general manager. In 1976 he was named the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager until his death in a car crash in 1983.

Reid Simpson was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fourth round (72nd overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He played for 12 seasons in the NHL for (in addition to the Flyers and Penguins) the Minnesota North Stars, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Tampa Bay Lightning, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, and the Nashville Predators.

- Penguins head coach Bob Johnson was diagnosed with brain tumors and had emergency surgery that night
