Evaluating The Washington Capitals 2012-2013 National TV Schedule
The National Hockey League announced the national TV schedule for the 2012-2013 regular season this week among the midst of the NHL and NHLPA ongoing CBA negotiations. The Washington Capitals will appear on the NBC sports network and NBC a maximum twelve times this upcoming season. The NHL network will also will carry seven Capitals games and CBC in Canada will cover 28 of the Washington Capitals regular season games. The NBC sports network holds exclusive rights for 11 of the Capitals games and NBC will feature at minimum one Washington Capitals game including their home game on February 3rd, 2013 against the Stanley Cup Champions, Los Angeles Kings.
Below are the Capitals twelve national television games and some quick thoughts on Washington’s opponents.
October 15th vs Florida Panthers
This early season contest will be an important match-up for the Capitals to find out how they fare against their division rival from Florida. The Panthers surprised many in winning the division last year and this is an opportunity to show that they are looking to compete for the division crown.
October 29th at Minnesota Wild
Washington travels to Minnesota to face-off against the newly revamped Wild following their acquisitions of free agents, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
October 31st vs Pittsburgh Penguins
Every time these conference foes meet, excitement surrounds the game. Alex Ovechkin will be back facing off against Sidney Crosby, just what the National Hockey League needs.
November 14th at New York Rangers
The Capitals travel to the big Apple for a chance at redemption against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs. A big test against a similar team they could face once against in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
December 5th vs New York Rangers
The Rangers return to Washington D.C. as Rick Nash gets his first taste of hockey in the nation’s capital.
December 26th at Buffalo Sabres
The Capitals travel to Buffalo for a post Christmas affair as the Sabres look to compete for a playoff spot. Braden Holtby could earn the chance to square off against Buffalo star goalie, Ryan Miller.
February 3rd vs Los Angeles Kings
Washington faces off against the defending Stanley Cup championships on NBC. Pay attention to the Capitals offense as they look to solve Kings young goalie, Jonathon Quick.
February 27th at Philadelphia Flyers
The Capitals travel to the city of brotherly love as the star power of Alex Ovechkin meets Flyers center, Claude Giroux.
March 10th vs Boston Bruins
Boston visits Washington in the spring most likely without Tim Thomas. The Bruins look to take down the Capitals following their exit in the first round of the Stanley Cup finals to Washington.
March 17th vs Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo vists Washington in the middle of March, likely fighting for a playoff spot. The new look Sabres look to solve either of the Capitals young goalies.
April 7th at Pittsburgh Penguins
Washington visits Pittsburgh bef0re the 2013 Stanley Cup finals looking to gain momentum heading into the stretch drive.
