Ranking The 2012-2013 Philadelphia Flyers: #27-25
Starting today, I will be putting a ranking together of the top 27 players who could play on the Philadelphia Flyers this season. Though only 20 players can play during a game and only 23 can be on the active playing roster, I will include four extra players who could make their way onto the active roster at some point this season.
**Player positions are according to the Flyers’ roster on the Official Website of the Philadelphia Flyers**
27. Tom Sestito (LW): Sestito signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Flyers in July. He most likely will spend time in the AHL along with the NHL. Sestito is another player whose game is based off of being physical and getting into fights. In 14 games with the Flyers, Sestito had one point and 83 penalty minutes. After being suspended for a hit in a preseason game versus the New York Rangers, Sestito had trouble beating out Zac Rinaldo for a spot on the roster.
26. Jody Shelley (LW): Like Sestito, Shelley is another player who thrives on physical play. Only once in his career has the 36-year old recorded ten points in a season. In 88 games with the Flyers, Shelley has five points and has recorded 191 penalty minutes. His age, along with injuries, have lessened his playing time. With the emergence of a younger physical player such as Rinaldo, Shelley will likely play less than he would like to this season.
25. Harry Zolnierczyk (LW): Zolnierczyk is another young winger that the Flyers have in their system. He may have a shot at playing in the lineup for the Flyers just as he did a year ago. In 37 games, he scored three goals and tallied three assists, but Zolnierczyk can put up big numbers. In 39 games with the Adirondack Phantoms, Zolnierczyk recorded 21 points. At a young age, it is hard for players to understand the game of hockey. Some players just understand it a bit faster and their skill is much better, but Zolnierczyk has played NHL games and could play minutes for the Flyers if someone gets injured.
