Matt Kartozian-US PRESSWIRE

The much anticipated NHL 13 video game came out today across North America and gamers flocked to near by stores to drop $60 plus tax for this year’s installment of the EA Sports NHL series. Midnight launches took place all across Canada and some places in the United States on Monday night.

With any new video game release, player ratings are at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Ratings always generate controversy and snubs. Below are the ratings for the Phoenix Coyotes players:

Zbynek Michalek: 86 overall
Keith Yandle: 83 overall
Derek Morris: 83 overall
Antoine Vermette: 83 overall
Shane Doan*: 82 overall
Rusty Klesla: 82 overall
Radim Vrbata: 82 overall
Oliver Ekman-Larsson: 82 overall
Lauri Korpikoski: 81 overall
Martin Hanzal: 80 overall
Steve Sullivan: 79 overall
David Moss: 78 overall
Mikkel Boedker: 78 overall

Raffi Torres: 75 overall
Kyle Chipchura: 73 overall
Paul Bissonnette: 69 overall
Michael Stone: 69 overall
Jason LaBarbera: 77 overall
Mike Smith: 84 overall

The Coyotes are known for their defensive depth and it shows in the game as the top three and five of the top eight rated players are all defensemen. Goaltender Mike Smith saw a bump up in his ratings after his career year last season.

EA Sports has changed up their rating system since last year. More players are rated in the 70’s and 60’s than ever before. Having a rating above 80 means you are very good and above 85 is a superstar caliber player.
