San Antonio Rampage radio play by play voice Dan Weiss recently asked Florida Panthers Assistant General Manager and Rampage General Manager Mike Santos a few questions from fans. A few good questions were asked by the fans and Santos was more than happy to answer them, also stating he’s happy that fans are excited for the start of the upcoming season in the AHL.
He spoke of the AHL and the turnaround it has, with players moving on to the NHL or other leagues and the steps the Rampage took in replacing a few players lost in the off-season due to this. Mentions of new acquisitions such as Andre Deveaux and Jean Francois Jacques to bulk up the forward position, making the team a little tougher. Panthers prospects such as Quintion Howden, Alex Petrovic and Drew Shore were also mentioned in reference to exciting new players to expect in the upcoming season. All of which made their professional debut for the Rampage towards the end of last season and in the playoffs, looking to start their first full season in the AHL.
The impending NHL lockout, which has already taken effect was mentioned and it was asked how it could affect the Rampage in the upcoming season, such as players who could be coming to the team. Santos stated that it shouldn’t affect the Rampage too much and it would otherwise see much of the same team from the year before returning in the 2012-2013 season. Young goaltending Jacob Markstrom is among that group and is looking to start his third season in the AHL before possibly making the jump into the NHL for the Panthers next season. Exciting times are ahead in the AHL for the Rampage as many of the Florida Panthers highly ranked prospects begin to slide into roster spots.
