Though the NFL referees and NHL players are locked out by their employers, not on a voluntarily-triggered strike, the way that some NHL players are showing solidarity for their locked-out football brethren on Twitter is reminiscent of the solidarity often shown in labor strikes.

Many locked-out NHL players were among the millions of people watching last night’s now-infamous NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks. Here’s what some of them had to say about the situation, as well as other recent run-ins with replacement refs, and occasionally how it relates to what is happening in their league. Some of these tweets have been edited for clarity.

Akim Aliu (Calgary Flames): “who do you guys think is more stubborn roger goodell or garry [sic] bettman?”

Zach Bogosian (Winnipeg Jets): “Doesn’t matter to me who won the game tonight…but that was AWFUL refereeing #yousuck” plus “[Bill] Belichick should have head butted the ref instead of grabbing him. Might as well go big or go home”

Mike Davies (Chicago Wolves): “Roger Goodell and Gary Bettman should never have a child together.”

Devin Setoguchi (Minnesota Wild): “you gotta be kidding me this is the biggest joke… ruined the sport of football tonight #godawful…Integrity of football gone #joke #embarrassing #shame”

Ryan Whitney (Edmonton Oilers): “”Upon further review the ball was intercepted by the shortstop, and the Supersonics win!” -Refauxree”

Blake Wheeler (Jets): “This looks like the XFL”

Milan Lucic (Boston Bruins): “How is the @nfl still allowing these referees to ref these games #joke”

Scott Hartnell (Philadelphia Flyers): “This is unfrickinbelievable!!!! Let’s get ur [expletive] together @nfl #wakeywakey”

Paul Stastny (Colorado Avalanche): “The real #nfl refs are absolutely loving this…this is a joke! #makeacall”

Brad Richards (New York Rangers): “What kinda gong show is the NFL running?”

Brian Boyle (Rangers): “Great athletes putting heart and soul into their craft and risking even further injury w the sub par officiating. At least they’re playing…Lastly, so many people talking about week 3 #mnf game might not put much pressure on goodell to change anything. #ratingsboost #moneytalks”

Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles Kings): “Sad thing is how much more attention this will get instead of athletes that deserve it #seahawksD #miguelcabrera trip[le] crown race just [to] name a few. Not to mention that there is a whole league shut down, not just the refs #NHL
