5 Philadelphia Flyers That Will Emerge Into Stardom

Christopher Szagola-US PRESSWIRE

Every year fans try to look deep into their team's farm system to see what kind of talent is waiting to make a difference in the National Hockey League. Whether the team has a high first-round draft pick or a young man who has worked his hardest to play professionally, they have a chance to create something special in the future.

With the 2012-2013 season likely to be shortened even more than it has been already, the American Hockey League will be the main focus along with the NHL players that have gone overseas to play hockey.

The Flyers' AHL team is the Adirondack Phantoms (formerly the Philadelphia Phantoms). When the news of the lockout was announced, the Flyers acted immediately in order to get their young players practicing and workout out with the Phantoms.

Players such as Zac Rinaldo, Eric Wellwood, Erik Gustafsson, and the new 6'7" goalie Nikko Hovinen are four players that can thrive with the amount of practice time they will get in Adirondack. Due to the NHL lockout, many NHL teams have sent NHL caliber players into the AHL in order to get playing time. The result of these moves is that the AHL will now be a lot stronger than in years past and this could be a good sign for young players who want to become NHL stars.

For the 2012-2013 season, the Philadelphia Flyers have five players that I believe are on the verge of becoming stars in the NHL. So let us start with the player most likely to become the next star for the Flyers.

5 Philadelphia Flyers That Will Emerge Into Stardom: Sean Couturier

Sean Couturier did not have a lot to prove last year, especially being that he was one of the youngest players to play in the NHL. He played great for the Flyers on both sides of the ice. His defensive ability will help him eventually become one of the best two-way forwards in the league.

5 Philadelphia Flyers That Will Emerge Into Stardom: Jakub Voracek

Timothy T. Ludwig-US PRESSWIRE

The Flyers sure did strike gold in their two offseason trades from last summer. Jakub Voracek came over to Philadelphia and immediately started to produce. With the possibility of playing on the first line alongside Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell, Voracek could possibly become one of the best assist men in the NHL.

5 Philadelphia Flyers That Will Emerge Into Stardom: Brayden Schenn

The youth movement for the Flyers was kicked into high gear last season with almost 40% of the offense coming from rookies. Brayden Schenn was one of those rookies who took his game to another level. His playoff performance has to have Flyers' fans begging for the end of the lockout. Look for Schenn to become a household name around the league.

5 Philadelphia Flyers That Will Emerge Into Stardom: Luke Schenn

John E. Sokolowski-US PRESSWIRE

The Flyers took the meaning playing being in the 'City of Brotherly Love' to heart this offseason by acquiring Brayden's older brother. Luke Schenn has been labeled as a draft bust by the fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. With Schenn learning how to play physical but offensive hockey from players such as Chris Pronger and Kimmo Timonen, he could have a chance to blossom into the first round draft pick that many imagined him to be.

5 Philadelphia Flyers That Will Emerge Into Stardom: Marc-Andre Bourdon

Tom Szczerbowski-US PRESSWIRE

Philadelphia has always had a struggle on the blue line in the past decade. The physical presence was rarely ever there. With a player such as Marc-Andre Bourdon developing into a smart defenseman, the Flyers have a chance to have two to three stars on their blue line. Look for Bourdon to develop into a more physical player but watch out for his presence offensively because of how he can handle the puck.
