Boston Bruins history for October 10:

The Bruins get their first win of the 1959-60 season when they defeat the New York Rangers 6-4.

The Bruins begin their 1971-72 season with the Rangers, but this time it doesn’t go well as they lose 4-1.

To start the 1973-74 season, the Bruins welcome the Vancouver Canucks to Boston and defeat them 6-4.

This season doesn’t start off on the right foot for Boston–they lose 9-5 to the Buffalo Sabres in New York.

The Bruins take on the old Cleveland Barons and win by a 4-3 score.

The Hartford Whalers play the Bruins to a 1-1 tie.

A victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3, gives the Bruins their first home win of the season.

The 1985-86 season opens with a 3-1 Bruins win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The first away game of the season results in a narrow 6-5 loss to the Quebec Nordiques.

The Bruins get their fourth consecutive win of the season so far by beating the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 on the road.

The New York Islanders give the Bruins their first tie of the 1992-93 season as they play to three goals apiece.

For the Bruins, the 1998-99 season begins with a 3-3 tie against St. Louis.

The Bruins get their first loss of the season and break a three-game win streak against the Minnesota Wild, losing by 2-1.

The Bruins lose 5-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning on the first game of a six-game road trip.

Again the Bruins visit Tampa to see the defending champion Lightning, but this time they come away with a 4-2 win. Brian Leetch, P.J. Axelsson, Travis Green and Brad Isbister get the goals for the Black and Gold.

Chuck Kobasew has Boston’s only goal as they fall 2-1 to the Anaheim Ducks in Anaheim.

The Bruins beat the Islanders 4-3 in a shootout. The game is scoreless in the first and New York looks primed for a shutout when the second ends with 3-0 on the board, but then the Bruins bounce back: Marc Savard, Byron Bitz and Matt Hunwick all get goals with about eight minutes left in regulation. Then, in the shootout, Savard and Blake Wheeler each score.

The Bruins close out their Czech Republic season-opening swing by shutting out the Phoenix Coyotes 3-0. Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton score, David Krejci nets two assists and Tyler Seguin gets his first NHL goal.

On Columbus Day, the Colorado Avalanche discover (pardon the terrible pun) that all they needed to win against the Bruins was one goal and they win 1-0. The one goal did not come until late in the third period.
