- the first Stanley Cup Championship Banner was raised at the Civic Arena in a pre-game ceremony
- the first Peguins game was broadcast on local television (WTAE) with the Boston Bruins defeating the Pens by a score of 5-1
- Pittsburgh’s Earl Ingarfield squared off with Philadelphia Flyers’ Forbes Kennedy and became the first Penguins player to get a fighting major
