Wayne Simmonds, Chris Stewart Leaving Germany For Czech Republic

During the NHL lockout, it has been quite common for players to find the in leagues overseas.

What isn’t common is finding two different jobs overseas. However, that’s what Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds and St. Louis Blues star Chris Stewart are planning on doing.

The two life long friends signed with Eispiraten Crimmitschau of the German 2nd Bundesliga on Sept. 24, hoping to play together as the NHL and the NHLPA worked on a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Simmonds and Stewart made their debut with the club on Sept. 28, with Stewart tallying and assist in a 2-1 win over Lausitzer Füchse.

In just eight games with the club, both of the duo were ranked in the league’s top 20 point-getters. Stewart would tally three goals along with six assists in his time with Eispiraten, collecting three points in just one game, a 5-3 win over the Ravensburg Towerstars.

Simmonds would also end his time with the team with a total of ten points, scoring three goals and adding seven goals. Because of their offensive prowess, the German club found themselves in fifth place with sixteen points, just three points out of first.

The pair signed 30-day contracts with the club, and despite a willingness from the team to offer new contracts, both Simmonds and Stewart were not interested.
