The New Jersey Devils started the 2009-10 season like a house on fire. Just ask the Ottawa Senators,who fell victim to another Devils come from behind win on November 7, 2009.
After falling behind 2-0 to the hometown Senators, New Jersey rallied to pull out a 3-2 victory for their eighth in a row away from home. Zach Parise and David Clarkson each collected a goal and an assist as the Devils scored three straight power-play goals to climb out of an 0-2 second period hole and drop the Senators like a bad date, 3-2.
Andy Greene scored the go-ahead goal at 7:20 of the third period as the Devils stretched their record to 8-0 on the road with their fifth straight win overall and improved to 11-4-0 in their first 15 games.
Martin Brodeur started his 1,000th NHL game, making 19 saves to record his ninth win in 13 games. It was the eighth time in the young season, the Devils scored a tying or go-ahead goal in the third period. Talk about character building. Head coach Jacques Lemaire wasn’t pleased with the teams play early but seemed to soften up a bit by saying, “It’s a good sign when a team comes back and wins games, it’s a great sign. It’s a sign that they don’t let up. They want to win and they keep working.”
That means the world coming from the Devils legendary coach. I guess 11 wins in 15 games can do that to even the most hardened of coaches.
The Devils would go on to win three more games for a total of eight wins in a row and stretch their road winning streak to nine before the Philadelphia Flyers finally snapped the streak on Nov. 16, 2009.
