The New Jersey Devils Jump Into the Superstorm Sandy Relief Effort
The New Jersey Devils have jumped in to the “Superstorm Sandy”relief effort by setting up a designated information page on the teams official website.
The page entitled “Jersey Strong” is a one stop shop for all information related to the states effort to get back on its feet after the devastating storm that blanketed much of the state in darkness and nearly washed away the famed Jersey Shore. The page has all types of information, including links to the states transit system, school closures and even a list of locations in the surrounding area currently accepting donations.
One of the most useful bits of information I found on the webpage was courtesy of Google. The page has a link to the Google Crisis Map. It is basically a map of New Jersey with markers indicating what areas have electricity, gas, cell phone charging stations and approximately how much gas is available in specified locations have. Pretty handy is you have electricity and can access it.
If you want to get involved and help the victims in your area and beyond, here is a list of some of the items that desperately needed… non-perishable canned goods, boxed cereal, cookies, toiletries, water, batteries, flashlights, kids clothing, socks, underwear, razors, shaving cream, blankets, sweatshirts and sweatpants and so on and so on.
For more information and donation drop-off locations, visit the New Jersey Devils website and click on the “Jersey Strong” button. (link provided here)
On a personal note, I finally heard form my family in New Jersey after the lights clicked back on. My parents were without electricity or heat for nine days. Thankfully, the lights came back on before the next storm hit. My family was one of the lucky ones, however, there are many out there that were not as fortunate. Let’s all do our part to help the victims of this catastrophic storm.
Let’s show the world what “Jersey Strong” really means.
