Jordan Staal recorded his second NHL career hat trick against the Detroit Red Wings to tie the game at 6 and send it into overtime (the Penguins ultimately beat the Red Wings by a score of 7-6)

2000
Penguins GM Craig Patrick and former Penguins head coach Herb Brooks were named GM and coach of the 2002 US Olympic team by USA Hockey

Team USA won silver while Team Canada won gold.  Chris Chelios was team captain and Phil Housley and Brian Leetch served as alternate captains.
