Did you enjoy our tour of the KHL? Good, because we’re on our way to the rest of Europe now. We’ll be hitting four countries and visiting five Columbus Blue Jackets players.
First stop is Austria, where Derek Dorsett and Derick Brassard are together with HC Red Bull Salzburg. Brassard has four goals and five points in five games, while Dorsett has only one point, an assist, in four games. And here’s something not surprising: Dorsett has 25 penalty minutes in those four games. The Red Bulls are sitting in ninth place in the EBEL, three away from the bottom of the league.
Next stop is the Czech Republic, where Vinny Prospal is playing with HC Mountfield. Since joining the team on October 29, he’s racked up six goals and 16 points in 11 games. His latest goal was in a huge game against HC Pardubice, and it was the first of three goals that gave Mountfield their fifth win in a row. Like Red Bull, Mountfield is in ninth place, this time in the Czech Extraliga.
Finally, we stop in Scandinavia, where Jared Boll plays for TuTo Turku in Finland’s Mestis league and Mark Letestu plays for Almtuna IS in Sweden’s Allsvenskan league. Boll’s been in Finland since November 15, and he’s had two goals and 3 points in five games. He even helped conduct a hockey school for young players along with TuTo teammate and Ottawa Senators player Jesse Winchester. Meanwhile, Letestu signed with Almtuna on December 3 but has yet to play a game. TuTo is sitting in second place in the Mestis, while Almtuna is one spot from rock bottom of the Allsvenskan.
After two legs of our overseas trip, it’s time for a long flight back to Columbus. I think we’ve deserved the rest, and hopefully things will work out so we don’t have to do this again.
