NHL Lockout 2012: Fans Deserve Better

I’m sure many of you already know this but in case you didn’t the current NHL Lockout doesn’t look as if it will be solved anytime soon. Worse, it seems like both the NHL and NHLPA are more intent on making the other side look bad than returning the game to its rightful place on the ice!

Meanwhile, fans have had quite enough. We’re sick and tired of hearing the same thing out of both sides’ mouths. You know, the whole “We need to reach an agreement because the fans deserve it” and “We care about our fans”. If the two sides really cared they wouldn’t have locked us out, wouldn’t have left some arena workers unemployed and wouldn’t still be arguing over the money fans provide them with.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe actions speak louder than words. If that’s the case maybe both sides would benefit from employing the whole “put up or shut up” motto. Put simply this means they shouldn’t speak until an agreement’s reached. If an agreement isn’t reached don’t say you care about the fans because we won’t buy it. We aren’t naive enough to not know what’s being done and quite frankly we’re insulted by it.

Either way, fans deserve better than the emotional roller coaster they’ve been put through these last few months. I don’t know about everyone else but I’m personally tired of hearing the two sides are close just to see things blow up a day or two later. It’s frustrating and annoying. It also doesn’t help fans who are living through this nightmare, all the while wishing for its end, but knowing they don’t control the fate of the game they so love.
